Minister pushes green living concept

- WAISEA NASOKIA Edited by Epineri Vula

Residents of Nadi have been urged to keep their surroundings clean and be environmentally responsible.

The plea has come from Minister for Local Government, Housing and Environment, Infrastructure and Transport Parveen Bala while opening the 2018 Digicel Bula Festival.

Speaking at Prince Charles Park on Saturday night, Mr Bala acknowledged the initiative by the festival committee to join hands with stakeholders, particularly Nadi Town Council, to continue driving common objectives such as a clean, green, secure and healthy living environment for all.

“Nadi, as a municipal centre, is promoting itself as Fiji’s liveable green town,” he said.

“The council on its own cannot live up to that tag.

“We need to have environmentally responsible people in Nadi to make their town, villages, roads, rivers, and seas liveable and green.” Mr Bala urged the festival’s queen contestants to be good brand ambassadors.

Digicel Fiji Head of Commercial, Residential Segments (ISP & Pay TV) Charlotte Taylor said: “We are proud to be associated with this festival, we are proud to be a partner, especially with Nadi to be declared a city next month. We are able to support festivals and communities with sponsorship because of the great support that we get from our loyal customers.”
