Flooding concerns raised by residents of Lakena and Manoca outside Nausori will be looked into by experts. The Minister for Waterways Mahendra Reddy gave the assurance during a talanoa session on Friday.

The residents were not happy because they have submitted many complaints, but nothing was done about it.

Farmer, Vidya Bhan Singh, 60, said he was glad that he could raise his concerns with Mr Reddy during the talanoa session.

“I have a registered lease and the major problem I face is water getting into my farm. I plant vegetables and due to the drain not leveled properly the water gets into my farm,” Mr Singh said.

“This has been going on for a long time. Despite numerous complaints nothing has been done about it.

“Vegetable farming is my family source of income. I hope that Mr Reddy does something about it.”

Mr Reddy has assured the people that he will look into all concerns raised at the talanoa session. “I will look into it with our engineers. The engineers are here to ensure that the problems you are facing come to an end,” Mr Reddy said.

More than 100 people from the flood prone areas attended the talanoa session.
