Labasa campus contributes to North development
The University of the South Pacific (USP) Labasa Campus has contributed greatly to the growth and development of the Northern Division, both academically and economically. Commissioner Northern Jovesa Vocea made this remark at the USP 50th Anniversary celebration in Labasa earlier this week. “In the Northern Division, I have witnessed the growth and development of USP from the year 2000, and its impact on social and economic development of the North,” Mr Vocea said.
Mr Vocea said in the development of human resources especially civil servants, the institution has been supportive and proactive in delivering programmes appropriate to the needs and demands of the Government. He said the institution has helped in improving and upgrading the knowledge of workers in the effective delivery of Government services to the people.
“One of the programmes that have elevated the status of civil servants in the Northern Division is the Masters of Business Administration (MBA) programme,” Mr Vocea said. “As a proud alumni of USP like many of my colleagues who spent those memorable years in Laucala and its campuses throughout the 12 countries in the Pacific region, I can honestly state that USP has provided an effective platform that creates connections to various effective network system and mutually beneficial in terms of progress and advancement of my career,” he said. “Collectively as USP graduates, we have impacted greatly and undeniably on the growth, economic development, and governance of this country and in particular the Northern Division.
“I was told that this programme was the initiative of the current Minister of Agriculture, Inia Seruiratu, while serving as a Commissioner Northern in 2008.
“I am proud to say that the majority of MBA graduates from Labasa Campus are heads of departments and I hope this trend will continue in the future,” he said.
Mr Vocea added that as a premier tertiary education provider in the region, USP has championed cultural diversity, inclusiveness and uniqueness and has become an integral part of our communities and contributes in various ways to various community activities and engagements.
