RESIDENTS’ FUTURE IN DOUBT

Residents on a piece of land outside of Suva have heard on the grapevine that they may be relocated because a major development is coming to them. It is said that the land will be leased to a prominent organisation.

The residents are helpless because they have been squatting on the land. The landowners who have allowed the residents to stay on the land want a better return for their resource so they want it leased out for a commercial rate. But they feel for the residents. Negotiations are continuing and a decision is expected soon.
