Matererega stars in Nadi win
Striker Rusiate Matererega was the toast of the Jack’s Nadi side after scoring a double in the 4-0 drubbing of Dreketi in the 2018 INKK Mobile Battle of the Giants at Churchill Park, Lautoka yesterday.
The Bavu, Nadroga native was spot on as the Green Machine aim to win their first tournament in Lautoka.
What happened: Matererega opened the floodgates in the 7th minute through a header to beat goalkeeper Petero Tamaniabo, 1-0. In the 37th minute Napolioni Qasevakatini tapped in a pass from Matererega, 2-0.
The Green Machine had the services of Afraz Ali, Ilimotama Jese, Patrick Joseph, Vereti Dickson, Jone Ralulu and Ame Votoniu.
Halftime: Nadi 2 –0 Dreketi Dreketi continued to be outplayed as in the 58th minute Josefata Dugucagi extended Nadi’s lead, 3-0. In the 75th minute Matererega had the last laugh when he beat Tamaniabo again.
Dreketi had the services of veterans Usaia Tadu, Akeimi Ralulu, Sisa Valesua and Daniel Dass.
Big Play: Matererega played a man of a match performance. Star Turn: Dugucagi was in control in the midfield.
Comments: Nadi coach Maxwell Thaggard said, “It is a great start and good sign to see strikers scoring goals. The partnership between Rusi and Qase was good but more work needed.” Dreketi coach Jitendra Nand said, “We did not play according to plan. We need to improve drastically.”
