FIJI’S UNIQUENESS: A-G
Fiji is a more liberal society today where everyone is accorded equal rights, says Acting Prime Minister and Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.
Speaking at the Kirtan competition event at Narere Primary School, Nasinu on Saturday night, Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said every Fijian needed to do their part.
More than 200 people turned up to meet and greet Mr Sayed-Khaiyum and listen to the Kirtan competition.
“I would like to thank the Grog Masters Group for organising the event,” he said.
“It was recently said that Fiji was in a new historic era where a lot of things had changed.
“The fact is that our society is more liberal, more open and provides everyone with equal rights and we should also contribute the same way to the country.
“We should look after our elderly people, any family who faces financial difficulties, any widow or orphans.
“The Government is providing a lot of services, but we also should come together and work together and that is the beauty of Fiji.
“A lot of people come to Fiji and realise that the way we live in harmony is something that is unique. We should cherish these things and we should not let this change.
“I thank the organisers for the event. It is great to see people maintain the culture as we see that Fijians from overseas to perform Kirtan. “People work overseas and come back and contribute in our community. It helps to maintain the community spirit,” Mr SayedKhaiyum said.
