Great initiative

-

Tukai Lagonilakeba, Nadi

It is indeed great to read in the Fiji Sun of our FNPF-owned Marriott's Momi International Resort initiative at this beachside Tau Village, Nadroga who are the iTaukei landowners where this magnificent resort is built.

Excellent corporate responsibility by its management team in its commitment to making life easier for the workers at the Tau Nursing Station.

As well as all those who patronise it. The installation of solar panels, batteries and solar powered lights is user friendly, clean, sustainable.

It is in line with our Government's long term plan to go the green energy way.

It would be ideal for all our major Island Resorts around the Mamanuca and the Yasawa Group of Islands to work with their island-based villagers and landowners to provide solar powered lights to their homes as opposed to the daily use of kerosene or diesel generators.

It will make life bearable and much easier for those mothers and children who study and do their homework under kerosene lanterns.

Realistically it is only fair that those tourism dollars filter down to both workers and landowners alike.

I would like to also plead with our Government to please remove all those old diesel buses still in operation on our roads.

They spew loads of used dirty black and poisonous diesel or carbon monoxide into our environment daily.

It does have a very negative impact on all Fijians health including putting a strain on our Ministry of Health's yearly budget.

This has been a norm also with other old diesel trucks.

Our good health does not only start with the type of fresh food we consume including our daily exercise, clean drinking water and life style, but the clean air we breathe is crucial to our wellbeing. Australia, New Zealand and many modern cities of the world use solar and battery- powered buses for their public transportation.

These are user friendly and efficient with very little pollution.

Our Government should enforce them immediately with the applicable incentives to all our bus operators.

Clean Green Energy is the way to go.

Vinaka vakalevu (thank you) to the management of our Marriott's Momi for an excellent civic duty to mankind.
