A14-year-old student is admitted at the Suva Colonial War Memorial Hospital after he was involved in a road accident yesterday.

David Saua of Suva Adventist College was on his way to school at about 6.30am when he was struck down by a taxi at Nasinu Road.

His father, Koia Saua, told the Fiji Sun that he was still at his home in Bau when he received a call. “He has scratches on his head and face and he feels a sharp pain on his pelvic bone,” Mr Saua said.

“We are thankful that he is still alive,” Mr Saua said.

Police spokesperson Jokatama Qio confirmed the incident and said the taxi driver rushed David to the Valelevu Health Centre straight after the accident, but he was then transferred to the CWM Hospital.

Inspector Qio said the taxi was travelling from Suva on its way to Nakasi when the incident happened at Nasinu Road. Hospital authorities were waiting for the CT scan results when contacted yesterday.

TACIRUA TOO

In another incident a primary school student of Tacirua was also rushed to the CWM Hospital yesterday afternoon. Witnesses told the Fiji Sun the student was hit by a black twin cab on Tacirua Road at about 3pm. One witness, who declined to be named, said she then rushed the boy to hospital.

“Drivers should be aware that after school hours, students will be on the road so they need to drive slowly,” the witness said. She said the sad part was that no bystander accompanied them to the hospital and she had to ask one of her staff to hold the boy while they rushed him to the hospital. A Fiji Sun journalist was at the CWM Hospital when the boy was wheeled to the emergency room. When this edition went to press, hospital authorities were still trying to confirm the boy’s identity.
