Man Charged for alleged abduction of pupil

A 21-year-old farmer charged with abduction has been ordered not to set foot on Moala Island again until granted by a court order.

Jonati Vuli charged with one count of abduction appeared before Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili.

It is alleged that on June 18, 2018 between 6.30pm and 9.30pm, Vuli allegedly abducted the 17-year-old victim from a school compound and took her unlawfully to his village in Moala. Vuli was granted bail on the assurance of one surety and bail sum of $500.

The accused is now residing at Nasinu and must report to the Valelevu Police Station every Wednesday between 6am and 6pm.

Chief Magistrate Ratuvili told the accused to reside at the given address until the case was completed.

The matter was adjourned to August 17 for plea.

She also sought for 14 days to file a formal bail response.

For the first count of rape, it is alleged that the accused between December 1 and December 31, 2017 in Suva, allegedly raped the nine-year-old victim at their home.

For the second count of rape between January 1 and July 12 and the third count of rape on January 13, 2018 it is alleged that the accused allegedly raped the nine-year-old victim at their home.

The accused was further remanded in custody.

The matter was transferre­d to Justice Chamath Morais’s court for bail hearing on August 7.
