Oxford Study Excites Doctor From Nadroga
AFijian Doctor will soon leave for the United Kingdom to study at the famous Oxford University. He was congratulated by the British High Commissioner Melanie Hopkins on winning the British Government -funded scholarship.
Dr Mesulame Namedre of Nakalavo Village in Nokonoko, Nadroga said the opportunity would broaden his knowledge on health.
He will be pursuing his Master of Science in International Health and Tropical Medicine at the Nuffield Department of Clinical Medicine.
The one-year programme starts in October, 2018. He currently works for the Ministry of Health and Medical Services as a Tuberculosis Control Officer and is currently working for a Global Fund project with the ministry. Dr Namedre is particularly looking forward to working with health projects in a developed country like the UK Government that will contribute immensely to his work of trying to effectively combat the rise in communicable diseases in Fiji and the Pacific region
“I am excited about this opportunity, but I also understand that it will be a tough and an exhausting year, especially being away from work and my family,” he said. After his studies, Dr Namedre plans to return home and continue with his work focusing not only on Tuberculosis but with controlling other communicable diseases as well. His field of interest is in health and development and predictive disease modeling.
He is married with two children.
