FDA Meeting To Emphasis Good Oral Health
The Fiji Dental Association’s 42nd Annual Conference and AGM will take place this weekend at the Hilton Fiji Beach Resort, Nadi.
The conference annually attracts dentists from around the country along with a number of national and international dental suppliers.
According to the vice president of the Fiji Dental Association and Chairperson of the 2018 FDA conference organising committee Dr Leenu Maimanuku, this year, the national dental association has partnered with the World Dental Federation, the New Zealand Dental Association, the Australian Dental Association, The Smiles for the Pacific and the Fiji National University.
“The partnership would bring to our shores distinguished international, regional and local speakers to strengthen the oral health workforce and improve dental services in Fiji,” Dr Maimanuku said.
Among the registered participants are a 20 people delegation from New Zealand and 25 dental professionals from neighbouring Pacific Island nations.
The World Dental Federation (FDI) and the Fiji Dental Association partnership spans over a couple of decades.
The key achievements of this partnership has been the provision of high quality professional development opportunities for members of the association and local oral health professionals, awareness and advocacy for oral health and enabling our small island association to contribute to the development of oral health globally.
The Fiji Dental Association strongly advocates that oral health needs to be integrated into all national action taken to prevent and control NCD’s.
Oral health problems are a major national concern leading to pain and suffering in our population and much needs to be done to improve access to good oral health care in the country by all of Fiji’s population.
Speakers at the conference will be updating participants on oral health advances in various areas of dentistry and aiding in equipping participants with new knowledge and skills in the provision of Root Canal Treatment, involvement in identification of Oral Cancer and management of dental infections.
The conference will be held at the newly opened conference facility at the Hilton Fiji Beach Resort and Spa on August 4, 2018
