Expert Will Deliver Lecture For Special Treatment
Dr Marcus Yan will be another guest speaker at the 42nd Annual Conference of the Fiji Dental Association ( FDA), which will start on August 4, 2018 , at Hilton Beach Resort, Nadi.
Dr Yan’s lecture topic is: Intra-canal Instrumentation and disinfection - Longer? Wider? Larger? And what about CaOH?
An abstract of this lecture states: “Chemo-mechanical preparation is one of the most important stages in endodontic treatment.
“However, the extent of apical enlargement and the level where the instrumentation or filling procedure terminate have continued to be debated.
“With the introduction of rotary instrumentation, the shape or taper of the canal has also raised discussions among clinicians.”
The presentation will discuss the current concepts of intra-canal instrumentation that fulfils the objectives of chemo-mechanical prepara- tion biologically and mechanically, as well as the controversial use of intra-canal inter-appointment medicaments.
Dr Yan said that management and treatment planning of post treatment endodontic disease could be a dilemma for clinicians. “Modern orthograde retreatment have very predictable and positive outcomes,” he said.
“Therefore, it is often ‘the’ treatment of choice for managing posttreatment endodontic disease.
“Traditionally, surgical treatment was often viewed as the last heroic attempt at tooth retention and was considered only when orthograde retreatment was simply not possible or practical. “Endodontic microsurgery has, however, evolved tremendously in the last decade and is fundamentally different from traditional apical surgery.”
In addition, there are now many clinical studies supporting the predictable and positive outcome of modern endodontic microsurgery in the management of post-treat- ment endodontic disease. Hence surgical treatment of post-treatment endodontic disease should no longer be viewed as the last resort.
