An Indian Navy stealth multi-role frigate INS Sahyadri arrives in Fiji in two weeks and will be open to the public for guided tours.

As part of the goodwill visit, doctors from India and Fiji will perform free health screenings on August 15 from 10am to 4.30pm at Ratu Sukuna Park in Suva.

This was confirmed yesterday by Indian High Commissioner to Fiji Vishvas Sapkal, who said the ship would be here from August 13-16. He said the INS Sahyadri’s visit was a bid to strengthen close and strong bilateral relations between India and Fiji.

“During the visit, the Indian Navy personnel will have professional interactions with their Fiji counterparts and the ship will have an open day for the general public on August 14,” Mr Sapkal said.

“All Fijians and foreign nationals are requested to visit INS Sahyadri with their identity cards.”

Mr Sapkal said it would be the first time INS Sahyadri visited Fiji.

“A medical camp will be organised in collaboration with the Fijian Government where the doctors from India and Fiji will jointly perform Free Health Screening,” he said.

“The on-board visit will be arranged in a group of around 20 people. Schools and universities are invited to visit the ship, but they have to convey the lists of students to the High Commission at cons.suva@mea. gov.fh to arrange guided tours.”

The open day for the general public is from 10am to 4pm on August 14.

The ship’s officers and crew will celebrate India’s 72nd Independence Day in the Port of Suva on August 15, 2018.
