FIJIANS TAKE FULL
ADVANTAGE OF ARK PEACE SERVICES
Locals have praised the level of service provided by doctors from the Chinese People’s Liberation Army navy hospital ship Ark Peace.
One such person was Marica Nasau, 51, who was among Nasinu residents being attended to by doctors from the ship at the Makoi Health Centre yesterday.
She said it was the first time she has been seen by foreign doctors. “My stomach has been swollen for the past four months and I don’t really know the reason,” said Ms Nasau, who is originally from Yasawa. “I have been in pain for a long time and didn’t know what to do.
Another Nasinu resident Eroni Veretaki, 66, who is originally from Lau, said he was glad to have had an opportunity to be seen by the Ark Peace doctors.
“So when I heard that the ship was here I came so that I could have a medical check-up.
“I am happy that I was able to see them. Now I just have to go to the Colonial War Hospital (CWM) to get my blood tested and get the results back to them.
“After they see my results then they will decide if I should go to the ship and get surgery.” Another Nasinu resident Eroni Veretaki, 66, who is originally from Lau, said he was glad to have had an opportunity to be seen by the Ark Peace doctors.
“I am touched by the way I was treated from the doctors. They explained things clearly and have asked me to go to the ship tomorrow,” he said.
“I will take advantage of such opportunity because it doesn’t come around all the time. “Sometimes doctors just give us medicines without explaining thoroughly to us, but these doctors were thorough. I am glad that I came today when I heard that they were coming to the Makoi Health Centre.”
The Ark Peace hospital ship arrived at the Port of Suva on Thursday this week and will leave on August 9.
On board the ship are 120 doctors, who are providing medical services.
Ark Peace doctors are also attending to patients at the Lami and Raiwaqa health centres.
Check-up time for locals 9am-11:30am 1:30pm-4:30pm
