Association pleads for more service efficiency
Fijian dental practitioners have been urged to adhere to overseas standards because it will improve services.
The call has come from outgoing Fiji Dental Association (FDA) President Dr Vikash Singh at the association’s annual conference at the Hilton Fiji Beach Resort and Spa on Denarau.
Dr Singh said this was one of the reasons they organised their annual conference to provide an avenue for local practitioners to learn from their overseas counterparts. “The FDA is a professional body and we do activities that promote standards,” he said. “We encourage our members to improve their standard of practice and by organising such events where we have overseas practitioners coming over and allowing local practitioners to learn what is being practiced at international level.”
Dr Singh said local practitioners would implement the type of care they learned to Fijians. This, he said, meant adopting a new approach in how they served their patients.
Dr Singh said the exposure for their local practitioners in these sorts of arenas could contribute to how they would carry out their services.
Colgate-Palmolive Fiji General Manager Jarrod Parker thanked FDA, Dr Jonathan Cole and their team from Smiles Pacific for including their colleagues from the other Pacific Island countries in their conference.
“This Dental Conference has become an opportune time for OPIA executives to meet, apart from sponsoring conferences and workshops,” Mr Parker said.
Colgate Global, in partnership with international dental associations, has developed the “Colgate Oral Health Network for Professional Education and Development” website.” Mr Parker said included in their website are the latest research, publications and articles on oral health.
