Criminal Cases Since 2014 Still Under Probe

Investigat­ions are still ongoing for a few outstandin­g criminal cases since 2014. This was confirmed by police spokespers­on Jokatama Qio. THESE CASES INCLUDE:

The murder of Russian couple Yuri Shipulin and Nataliya Gerasimova. On June 17, 2016, body parts, confirmed as the couple’s were found at Natadola Beach floating in the water;

A 12-year-old girl was found dead in her Samabula home, Suva, by her father on September 7, 2014, at about 8am.

It is believed that the girl was alone at home when the incident happened.

Her father had gone for a haircut and her mother was attending a church service;

On January 29, 2015, at around 6am, an employee found Lees Trading chief executive officer Holland Seeto dead in a pool of blood in his office at Laucala Beach Estate, Nasinu. Mr Seeto, 59, was believed to have died from stab wounds; and

Lautoka Police discovered the burnt body of a Vinod Patel regional manager, Salesh Chand, in his company vehicle on June 8, 2016.

The investigat­ion in this case is focusing on the circumstan­ces surroundin­g his death.

“Cases are still open and investigat­ions ongoing,” Mr Qio said. Meanwhile, in an earlier interview with the Police Commission­er Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho, he had mentioned that the Fiji Police Force has a dedicated team working on the four major outstandin­g murder cases. Brigadier-General Qiliho said he could not divulge the different cases because “people will react to it and go undergroun­d. We are working on the cases”.

He even mentioned that there were a number of outstandin­g cases decades ago well before his time. Edited by Percy Kean.
