Vatuwaqa bank on unity to continue dream run
The Vatuwaqa rugby team are confident of a good outing against Uluinakau Babaas in today’s Ram Sami Nasinu Premier 15s quarterfinal at Marcellin Primary School ground. Vatuwaqa Rugby president Meli Talia said they are anticipating a tough encounter. “We’ve done our preparations and the payers are looking forward to the match,” he said.
“We’ve overcome the challenges we faced during the season. This was only possible through our love for rugby. The players will be coming out strong as they want to play in the semifinal.”
Talia said team work is one of the things that had carried them through this year’s competition.
“We did not have any sponsors since most players in the team are unemployed. We’ve also gone out of our way trying to get them jobs.”
COMPETITION FORMAT
Meanwhile, 16 teams had been pooled together from the start of the season to play in a round robin format, with the top 8 teams at the end of the round robin games to proceed to the quarterfinals.
“It has been a good season with tough competition displayed throughout. This attests to the immense pool of talents that exists within Nasinu,” said Nasinu Rugby Union president Paula Biu.
The surprises in the competition were caused by the newly- revived Nadera Rugby Club, Flick sponsored Vatuwaqa and FMF, who finished second, fourth and seventh overall respectively.
