True to her oath

‘A good newspaper is a nation talking to itself’

I am grateful to the Fiji Sun and my kai, Charles Chambers, for his article (FS 07/08) about a friend's daughter, Sabrina Khan. I know her father, a lawyer and former magistrate Iqbal Kahn. Though a lawyer herself, Ms Khan, was determined to get a taxi permit, which she was eventually awarded, in order to fulfil her mission. She wanted to provide a vehicle to transport disabled persons requiring wheelchair access. But when she received the taxi permit, she was bombarded with criticism.

Our politicians should learn a thing or two from this bright and humble person. Vinaka vakalevu Sabrina for showing the way to many of our self-professed Christian politicians who proclaim the Name of God for publicity purposes or to become famous for all the wrong reasons but have failed miserably in their duties as politicians.

Supervisors and students Floyd Robinson, Suva

Recently, universities in Australia released new guidelines which re-emphasised the inappropriateness of staff-student relationships.

While citizens in the Land Down Under have different views on this, it is also time to have a look at what may be happening in our universities here.

How are such cases dealt with at our local and regional universities? Are whistleblowers protected?

This is of course a sensitive topic and it is hoped that there are avenues to handle such cases.

Your choice Dharmendra Kumar, Suva

One of the most effective deceptions practised by Satan is to convince people that they have a choice to be completely free in the world—making their own decisions and going their own way.

This lie has led countless people to destruction. The truth is that every man, woman, and child born into this world is a servant to something. The only freedom we have is in the choice of what or who we will serve.

By the power of God through the Gospel, we are offered the choice to serve righteousness rather than sin. But if we do not exercise that choice, even as believers, we will live in bondage to sin.

The illusion of freedom is quickly shattered once the consequences of sin begin to appear. The fleeting pleasures of sin are quickly replaced by chains and bondage.

The harvest of the seeds that we sow cannot be avoided.

The choice that leads to freedom from God’s service inevitably leads to bondage to Satan. The choice that leads to freedom from sin places us in binding service to God.

Fiji Secondary Schools Soccer Shiu Kumar, Lautoka

Can the concerned authorities reveal why secondary schools soccer and the Inter District Cup tournament are not made live to our viewers like the Powerade Super Deans Rugby finals? I suppose soccer is one of the most expensive sports in the world. Come on wake up! Let’s televise it.
