Queen Victoria School Under-17 captain Semi Savubula fisted the air as they pipped Lelean Memorial School 9-8 in the Powerade Super Deans Rugby Championship final at the ANZ Stadium, Suva yesterday.

“We have achieved what we came for,” Savubula told SUNsports.

“Before coming to play in the final all that we aimed for was to take the trophy back to school and we have achieved it. QVS dominated the first half and never allowed LMS to settle down.

It was a torrid encounter as QVS managed to convert two penalties to hold a slender lead.

QVS 6-0 LMS

In the second half both teams came out firing with a bone crushing tackles being made.

LMS narrowed the deficit to 6-5 when Josaia Taufa scored a try with the conversion going wide. LMS took an 8-6 lead when they converted a penalty but it was QVS that regained control and kicked over a penalty in the dying moment of the final to claim victory.

“I thank the Lord for what we’ve achieved today and also the players for giving their best effort in the final.”
