The Ratu Kadavulevu School Under-14 rugby side retained the national title through a technicality after their final against Queen Victoria School ended in a 5-5 draw at the ANZ Stadium, Suva yesterday.
The scores were levelled after two extra spells and according to the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Association law the team that scores first would be declared the winner, which in this case was in RKS’ favour. RKS U14 coach Ulaiasi Lawe told SUNsports that he impressed with how his young players coped with the pressure. “I’m really happy with what the boys have achieved for the team and also for the school,” he said.
“I kept reminding the boys about how tough the game was going to be and I thank them for doing what they were expected to do during the match.”
What happened: In the 4th minute RKS took the lead with a try flanker Vilikesa Rokovonolagi which was not converted. Not to be outdone QVS hit back in the 11th minute when prop Sekaia Saukilagi crashed over for a try.
Halftime: RKS 5-5 QVS
Comment: RKS U14 captain Apenisa Cavuilati said: “I’m happy for the players as this is our first year playing and for me it is the work of our Almighty God that we are able to retain the title.”
