Scholarshi­ps to study in India excite recipients

THREE FIJIANS RECEIVED AIR TICKETS FROM INDIAN HIGH COMMISSION TO FURTHER THEIR STUDIES OVERSEAS

Three recipients of scholarshi­ps to study at tertiary institutes in India were excited when they received their tickets from the Indian High Commission at the Life Insurance Corporatio­n India (LICI) building in Suva last Thursday.

Recipient Asneet Sagar, 24, said it was his dream. Mr Sagar, 24, who completed a Degree in Engineerin­g in University of the South Pacific, has been working as engineer at the Water Authority of Fiji.

“I have applied three times for the Indian Council for Cultural Relations before and this year my luck was on my side to finally get the chance to go to India,” he said. He will now ben studying a Masters in Electrical at Technologi­cal University Dehli, India, for two years.

“I feel so happy and fortunate to get the scholarshi­p because I was giving up already,” he said.

“I would like to thank my parents for always believing in me and encouragin­g me not to give up,” he said.

“I will work hard so that I can come back after I complete my studies to serve my country”.

The other two recipients, married couple – Khemendra Kamal Kumar and Subhashni Lata Kumar – said they were extremely excited to go and study their PhD in Mysore together.

“We feel good and fortunate to get scholarshi­p to study in India”.

Ms Kumar has the chance to study PhD in Hindi while Mr Kumar will study a PhD in English and Literature at the University of Mysore, Bengaluru.

Their courses will be for four years. “PhD is a different kind of journey,” said Mr Kumar.

The couple said they will return to work here when they complete their studies Mr Sagar left last Saturday while Mr and Mrs Kumar will be leaving early next month.
