TOP SCHOOLS MAKE PROGRESS IN NADI

Kamil Muslim College held defending champions Baulevu High School 0-0 in the Vodafone Fiji Secondary Schools Championsh­ip Under-19 pool play at Prince Charles Park, Nadi yesterday.

KMC (Ba) remained unbeaten in the tournament as they have the services of club players like Lorima Batirerega Jnr, goalkeeper Meli Bavatu, Malakai Rere, Filimoni Nale, Isimeli Ratu and Mohameed Tanzil.

KMC team director Azam Ali said: “We came for a draw knowing that we have 7 points and it will take us to the quarters.”

BHS settled for a draw after they were beaten 1-0 by Sigatoka Andhra College side.

Midfielder Mohammed Altaf was the star of the game as he scored the lone goal in the second half to seal the upset win.

BHS coach Rohit Sharman said, “It was unfortunat­e that they had lost their earlier game but managed a draw. We are in good spot of qualifying after Tilak High won their match today.”

In another impressive performanc­e Swami Vivekanada College of Nadi hammered Tailevu North College 3-1. In the girl’s competitio­n, Holy Family Secondary School drew 1–1 with Sigatoka Methodist College while Xavier College held Vunimono High School to the same margin.

In the U17 category: Tavua College and Labasa College remained unbeaten. The Labasa Muslim College side edged out Coral Coast Fishing Charters Cuvu College 3-2 and so was Tavua College against Vashist Muni College. In the U15 Xavier College thrashed Rishikul College 6-0 to become the first team to qualify followed by Labasa College who held Reliance Pharmacy Nadi Muslim College to a 1-1 draw.
