Satya Sai Medical Unit Australia head praises Health Ministry’s changes

The change in the Ministry of Health’s medical service and health care in the Northern Division has led to a decrease in the number of patients attending the Satya Sai Medical Unit Australia free medical service.

Satya Sai Medical Unit Australia head Dr Gunu Naker said this to Minister for Health and Medical Services Rosy Akbar when she visited them at Seaqaqa Central College in Macuata Province yesterday.

Dr Naker said they conducted their medical camp for two days at Nadogo and two days in Seaqaqa this week and at both places they have seen less patients compared with previous years.

“At Nadogo in 2007 we had a thousand of people turning up,” Dr Naker said.

“This time within two days hardly 350 people came.

“We have some medical students with us who are getting firsthand knowledge, which will be very helpful in future.

“Our next plan is that we have a number of specialists and they can come to Fiji. If they can be accommodated in your health system as a teacher in hospitals or wherever it can enhance your service.

“At the end of the camp we will send a report on what we did so that everyone is informed.” Ms Akbar said the decrease in the number of patients could be that people are building trust in the system.

“I am very happy to hear about this change and it could be there are people now visiting our facilities more and trust our system,” Ms Akbar said.

She then suggested to Dr Naker if the organisation could have a memorandum of understanding signed with the ministry so that could work together for the benefit of everyone in Fiji.

The four-day free medical service provided by the organisation in the Northern Division ended yesterday. ALSO READ
