VODAFONE FIJIAN WOMEN SQUAD ANNOUNCED
The Vodafone Fijian women’s national football’s 20-member squad was officially named yesterday.
The Marika Rodu- coached side will play their first game against Vanuatu for the OFC Women’s Nations Cup qualifiers next Friday at Churchill Park in Lautoka.
Vanuatu are still on a high after winning the women’s gold medal during the 2017 Mini Pacific Games in Port Vila.
Rodu said they will be out to prove a point.
“Being unranked in the Oceania is very frustrating and we need to play our best during the qualifiers,” Rodu told SUNsports.
He added the qualifiers will also prepare the team for international competitions as well.
Fiji Football Association chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf said after Solomon Islands declined, Fiji stepped in to host the tournament.
“We are aiming to drive women football in Fiji; we are investing heavily in women’s competition,” Yusuf said.
