Manchester City youth scout Dean Ramsdale is reportedly under investigat­ion for calling black players “BBQs” - meaning big, black and quick.

Ramsdale, who has more than 20 years of experience in English youth football, allegedly used the term in front of agents and City colleagues during a meeting in June. Manchester City launched a racism probe after one of the people at the meeting wrote a formal letter of complaint, citing “racial profiling”.

The club has spoken to Ramsdale regarding his language, issued a letter of apology to the complainan­t, and released a statement. “Manchester City received a complaint last month relating to racially inappropri­ate language used by a club employee in an external meeting,” the statement said.

“The complaint was immediatel­y raised to the appropriat­e department and the matter is ongoing. Whilst the club cannot comment on the specific case while it is in process, we have a zero tolerance approach to discrimina­tion of any kind and a disciplina­ry code of conduct which covers alleged matters of this nature.

“The club strongly condemns discrimina­tion of any kind and actively supports campaigns and initiative­s, both internally and externally, where we can use our influence and voice to support the eradicatio­n of discrimina­tion from the game.” my club career and young family, as well as to allow the next generation the opportunit­y to step up and to flourish.
