Aking contestant taking part in this year’s Vodafone Festival of the Friendly North is advocating on the importance of breastfeeding. Vishal Prasad, 25, a dietician and nutritionist at the Labasa Health Centre, is one of the four King contestants vying for the crown.

The week-long Vodafone Festival of the Friendly North opens today at Subrail Park, Labasa. Mr Prasad, who is sponsored by Pioneer Security Services, is advocating on an issue he holds close to his heart. He believes breastfeeding is the best option for children for the first six months of life and continuing to the second birthday of each child. He lives with his parents at Ritova St, Labasa.

“Breast milk is best for babies, and the benefits of breastfeeding extend well beyond basic nutrition,” he said.

“In addition to containing all the vitamins and nutrients your baby needs in the first six months of life, breast milk is packed with disease-fighting substances that protect your baby from illness.

“Breastfeeding is a safe and secure source of food and fluid for infants – instantly available, providing active protection against illness and keeping an infant warm and close to his or her mother.”

Mr Tamanivalu will advocate on improving eating habits to avoid diabetes, Mr Kumar on a pollution-free environment while Mr Koi will advocate on changing of mindsets towards youth individuality.
