The Assistant Minister for Youth and Sports Iliesa Delana, has encouraged youths to use their talents wisely and be productive in their communities. Mr Delana was handing over farming tools to the Togaviti Youth Club and a chainsaw and tarpaulins to Vunibua Youth Club in Cakaudrove on Wednesday.

“Many times we have seen youths engage in unwarranted activities,” Mr Delana said.

“The Ministry of Youth and Sports has placed emphasis on targeting youths at risk and those who are vulnerable in our communities. Through our non-formal education program, we provide youths a second opportunity.” Mr Delana further stated that the ministry was ready to work with stakeholders to encourage and empower the youths of Fiji.

“The ministry recently concluded the public consultation on the revised National Youth Policy 2018 -2022,” he said. “We provided youths and our stakeholders an opportunity to have their voices represented through the policy. The revised policy is inclusive and addresses issues faced daily by Fijian youths.”

Meanwhile, the Vice President of Togaviti Youth Club, Julian Waqa Bibi thanked the ministry for its assistance.

“We are grateful for the assistance and the words of inspiration from the Assistant Minister,” she said. “This is the first time ever for an Assistant Minister to visit our village. “The items provided by the ministry will further enhance our youth club’s initiatives as we continue to venture into sustainable agriculture as a source of livelihood.”
