Radisson Blu Resort Fiji’s general manager Charles Homsy believes that his new role at the property includes standards.

Mr Homsy joined the property recently and was accorded an official welcome last Tuesday.

He said his main role is to always keep the standards high and keep this property in first place.

He said: “Keep the staff happy, well trained and relaxed. Because people come here not to see me but they come to see Fiji and the Fijians.

“We are only here to help and push our standards high and keep these people trained and so that when we go home we can say that we have achieved something and we have people that can run any kind of businesses.

“The main challenge to keep ourselves being competitive enough for people to continue coming so that that is the only challenge we see but the rest is business as usual.” Mr Homsy added that the owners’ representative board are cooperating well with the development undertaken at the property. “Our very important part of our success was because we have a board that was very committed and very helpful.” Refurbishment in all the rooms started last year and will be complemented at the end of February, 2019.

“Not only our rooms but we will upgrade our restaurants areas swimming pool areas, kids club will be refurbished.” Excerpts from an interview with Mr Homsy:

What made you take up this position?

I’ve always want to take challenges and this is a good challenge.

I’ve been in this business long now so this is not my first property but its definitely a beautiful property, full of potential and the staff are amazing. The location is beautiful and so it can be easy and not always complicated.

Can you tell us a bit about your role?

Again concentrating on the job quality improvements being creative on the food and beverages outlet.

Being happy, fun and relaxed and of course upgrading and refurbishing our rooms so everything will be of quality because this is how you keep hotels up to standards. How the guest needs because they come here to be happy so we make them happy in everything we have.

We give and so they will always go home happy and also speak about us and about Fiji and continue on coming back.

What’s your view on competition?

Competition has always been here and sometimes it is healthy to have competitive. You should concentrate on your job and do things right.

Any country in the world you have competition and we are happy to have them, I mean we cannot be the only hotel in Fiji. We just try to mark up ourselves and put ourselves on different level with our staff and also the level of communication and the quality of our service and with our fun because at the end of the day.

It’s a fun business and we are a resort. We have to concentrate on the love of this business and how we treat guests to be happy and relaxed!

Can you tells some of the challenges you have seen in the Fijian tourism industry?

The main challenge is the costs that are increasing from the hotel operator point of view.

The destination is getting a little bit expensive for our international travellers and guests.

We are challenged because it’s an expensive destination.

Also challenged by Asia destinations that have very good quality and five-star properties and are also less expensive.

What are your future plans?

Is to work on keeping this hotel as destination number one for families in Fiji and increase the quality of the resort.

I mean since the resort is already an extraordinary product but we just need to keep on doing that and keep on training our staff to keep liaising with the communities in helping and training them so that at the end of the day everyone is happy.

This is our main role which is to always keep our standards high and keep this property in first place.
