Sugar Festival makes call for clean environmen­t

The 2018 Vodafone Sugar Festival was opened on Saturday night with a call for a clean environmen­t to be foremost on people’s minds.

The call came from Nilesh Singh, Vodafone’s head of recharge and distributi­on at Churchill Park ground two in Lautoka. Mr Singh said that the message should be highly taken into considerat­ion because it was a concern for everyone.

“It is important to realise that Fiji needs a clean environmen­t and a healthy nation which will eventually lead to a brighter future,” he said.

“The festival has become a major platform for bringing people together from different cultural background­s.”

Mr Singh said the contestant­s would get an unpreceden­ted level of exposure to prepare them for further life challenges.

Sugar Festival Associatio­n president, Pusp Raj, said at the opening that people would get the opportunit­y to have unlimited fun at the grounds for the entire week. Nine Queen contestant­s are part of this year’s festival.

They are:

■ Miss Transtec Fiji Ltd Nilshika Karishma ■ Miss Lazer Electrical Ltd Prinal Ram;

■ Miss Formscaff Mirian Raju;

■ Miss Harmony Security Talilagi Delaifoa; ■ Miss Lautoka Market Vendors Associatio­n Esini Vukivuki;

■ Miss Wilderness Amusement and Rides Doreen Divya; and

■ Miss Lautoka City Council Payal Prasad
