The family of the late Ajodhya Prasad were still coming to terms with the fact he has died.

The 74-year-old from Nausori was in Ba to visit his eldest daughter when he was killed in an accident at Varavu on Saturday night.

His wife, Krishna Pati, 70, never thought that when they said goodbye to each other on Saturday morning it would also be their last. “My husband wanted to meet our eldest daughter, so he left on Saturday. Whenever he wanted to see our daughter he goes and comes back when he wanted to,” Ms Pati said. “We didn't know that he would not be returning to us when he left. We have been married for the past 56 years and have five children together. We have 12 grandchildren.” Ms Pati described her husband as a humble man.

“I have no regret marrying him because he has been good to me and our children. He never shouted, and he was always soft spoken,” she said. “He was kind, loving and the most understanding person. I still can't believe that he is no more.

“We did everything together and we were very close to each other. “We lived in Tavua and shifted to Suva five years ago to live with our only son.”

Their neighbour at Waidamudamu Settlement at 10 miles, near Nausori Mohammed Munir described him as an approachable person.

“He was a friendly man. I always invited him to come over to my place when I see him passing my home. He was someone that anyone could get along with,” Mr Munir said.

“I heard about the accident on the news, but I didn't know that it was my friend.

“When I was told that it was him I didn't want to believe it.

“He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him.”

The family are still waiting for the post mortem examiniation before they start planning for his funeral rites. Edited by Percy Kean
