COMMISSION QUESTIONS
UNIVERSITY OF FIJI AUDIT
The Fiji Higher Education Commission (FHEC) is seeking more information on audit issues regarding the University of Fiji.
This is after the commission queried outstanding fees by students in light of the $3 million grant from the Government. Members of the FHEC and the UniFiji Council met at UniFiji’s Samabula campus in Suva yesterday to discuss several issues pertaining to an abuse of office matter. A complaint has been lodged with the Fiji Independent Commis- sion Against Corruption (FICAC) for an investigation.
The commission has been asked to put in writing all its queries on all the issues to help the university deal with them more effectively. A letter of concern by Jagdish Chand, Vice President of the Arya Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji, about controversial administrative issues and FICAC investigations were not discussed because they were not on the agenda.
Delegates who attended the meeting of the university council and the commission were told not to talk to the media.
The clock-in and clock-out issue has not been completely resolved.
UniFiji had directed that all academic staff clock in to work and clock out when they leave the university’s campuses, something that did not go down well with university staff.
Managers were asked to talk to the staff and explain that it is for safety and security reasons. Academic staff who opposed it are still pursuing their grievance filed with the union.
