School managements have been urged to use the grants provided by the Ministry of Education to the maximum so they can reap wholesome benefits. The call came from the Director Primary Education, Hem Chand, while officiating at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Namaka Public School multipurpose hall last Friday.

“Looking at the support the Government is providing, excellent support is given to all the schools and we want holistic development to take place,” he said.

“The ministry’s work is to provide teachers and the grant. We want the schools to use the grant to the maximum, therefore this management and its visionary leaders is very good.”

Mr Chand said during times when the weather did not permit children to go out to the ground they could make use of the multipurpose hall for sports.

He said the development was mandatory for big schools such as Namaka Public School, which had a roll almost reaching 1000 students.

“We want all the students to develop in all areas. My message to all the other schools, especially large schools in urban areas is if they can come up with the multipurpose halls it’s good,” Mr Chand said.

“This hall can be use for different purposes and so they are planning to have the awards here.

“At times it’s hot in the classrooms they can move to the multipurpose hall because effective teaching learning can only take place if the environment is good for teaching and learning.” School headteacher Subramani Krishna said the project was planned a few years ago.

“In that multipurpose hall there will be two classrooms. One will be the library and the other one will be the computer lab,” he said. “We are very pleased to see the school will have the multi-purpose hall ready by November 1 this year.”

Meanwhile, NPS scored the highest pass rate in the Fiji Eighth Year Examination last year with 99 per cent.
