Kubuabola Leads Delegation In Bilateral Visit in Georgia
Fiji’s Minister of Defence and National Security Ratu Inoke Kubuabola arrived in Georgia along with his delegation for a ministerial bilateral visit this week.
According to a Government statement, the visit culminates the signing of a security memorandum of understanding between Fiji and Georgia.
The Georgia Minister for Internal Affairs Giorgi Gakharia is hosting the Fijian delegation from September 23 to September 28.
“Fiji has long standing relations with Georgia in the area of medical co-operation. Currently, there are nine Fijian medical students studying in Georgia,” the statement read.
Ratu Inoke had earlier met with the Foreign Minister of Georgia, Dr Maia Panjikidze in 2013 to discuss ways and means of intensifying relations between the two countries, given the growing developments in their relations in the recent past.
Fiji and Georgia formally established diplomatic relations on March 29, 2010.
Since then, Fiji has continued to receive delegations from Georgia. In November 2011, Georgia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Grigol Vashadze arrived with his delegation. The official programme started yesterday when Ratu Inoke and the Fijian delegation will meet with Georgia’s Minister for Defence, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Speaker of Parliament and Head of Security Services.
This is apart from visits to other significant places around Georgia including the State Military Scientific technical centre.
Ratu Inoke is accompanied by senior officials from the Ministry of Defence and the Fiji Police Force.
