The South Pacific Tourism Organisation celebrated ‘World Tourism Day with the launch its first ever Pacific Sustainable Tourism Network (PSTN) Microsite.

“The launch of this microsite is to establish an online platform which allows stakeholders interested in the Sustainable Development of Tourism in the Pacific to interact and share best practices” said SPTO chief executive officer Chris Cocker. The ‘World Tourism Day’ 2018 theme is ‘Tourism and the Digital Transformation’ and SPTO recognises the Pacific is fast developing it’s own digital space which is key to marketing our region and advocating for sustainable tourism.

The PSTN aims to bring together all stakeholders including individuals, businesses, Government agencies, experts, development partners and travellers to share information, learn from experiences and promote collective efforts in preserving our Pacific destinations.

“After our first successful media roundtable where we’ve tapped into both mainstream media and social influencers in Fiji who have online reach and influence to help advocate sustainable tourism practices and be more conscious travellers.

“This launch is another way to help connect people in the industry to share best practices and information digitally.” said Mr Cocker.

The network is a regional effort to align the programs of the South Pacific Tourism Organisation to the Sustainable Development Goals, the SAMOA Pathway, the Framework of Pacific Regionalism and guided by the Pacific Tourism Strategy 2015-2019 in responding to the needs and priorities of its members.

SPTO acknowledges the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and all partners who have contributed to this effort.

About PSTN

The Pacific Sustainable Tourism Network is an initiative of the SPTO to provide a central space where information on sustainable tourism development can be made available for all stakeholders. This is an extension of the SPTO Website www.southpaificislands.travel.

Whilst information on the Pacific’s efforts on sustainable tourism journey is ‘fragmented’, this platform aims to provide a one-stop-shop for visitors, policy makers, tourism practitioners and partners to share and learn.
