ASSISTANCE Govt Spends Over $80K To Cart Water

Government spent $80,725 to cart water to the maritime islands in the Western Division during the current dry spell. The Office of the Western Division District Commission­er confirmed this yesterday. Western Division media liaison officer Irami Lewaravu said a total of 1,971,300 litres of water is expected to be delivered to the islands once the water carting programme ends.

This is in an effort to assist those islanders affected during the dry weather spell.

According to the Office of the Western Division’s District Commission­er, the Naviti in Malolo Island will be supplied with water today.

The villages under this district include Soso, Muaira, Kese, Malevu, Marou, Somosomo, Gunu and Nasoqo settlement.

In addition, shipment of water is also planned for Wayalevu Island in the coming days to be delivered to the villages of Yalobi, Natawa, Nalauwaki, Naibalebal­e and Yakani.

This also includes Waya Lailai Island to cover the villages of Naboro, Namara and Yamata. The office said Ekubu, Taunovo, Lomanikaya and Bouwaqa villages on Vatulele Island will also be supplied with water today.

Water cartage to the various schools ended with a total capacity of 1,120,400 litres of water being carted. Another 465,500 litres of water was delivered to various health centres in the islands. Kese Police Post and Nacula Police Post in the Yasawas also received 40,000 litres of water during the dry spell.
