As the Western Division continued to face the dry spell, a church in Lautoka yesterday thanked Government for coming to its aid.

Wati Savou, a resident of Tuvu in Lautoka, acknowledged the Government for looking out for those in need.

In this case, it was the timely delivery of water to the church that she is a caretaker of.

The Jerusalem Fellowship Church has members who come from different backgrounds and ethnicities.

The 37-year-old caretaker said the dry spell left major water sources in their area dry, therefore prompting its members to start conserving each drop of water. “We cannot use the well water because it has turned quite salty,” she said.

Ms Savou said it worried her because there was no water left in the tanks at the church.

“I was worried because there was no water,” she said.

“But I was really happy after the Fiji Water Authority distributed water to us,” she said.

She said that the dry spell also proved damaging to the plants and livestock. “Now everything in church goes normal and we are really happy about it,” she said. Ms Savou also said that the love and togetherness of the different ethnicities under one roof was a major driver towards communal success.

“It’s a very good thing that we are working together,” she said.

For now, Ms Savou is hopeful that it rains in the Western Division as the Central Division has already started experiencing heavy rainfall.
