WAF Dominate Volleyball Comp

Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) proved too strong as they claimed four titles in the 14th Nadi Internatio­nal Volleyball Festival at Mount St Mary’s School ground in Martintar, Nadi yesterday.

WAF retained the men’s, mixed and the masters titles and now they’ve won women’s category as well. In the men’s final, WAF beat Vatukoula Gold Mine 43-27.

WAF’s captain Qilu Elliot said we started to play well right from the quarterfin­als.

“We made sure that we were going to win,” he said.

“We prepared well in the attack and also in defence. We had a lot of young boys and this win will take them to another level. This tournament is a good one and all teams had prepared well.”

WAF fielded six national reps in the likes of Eillot, Uraia Waqatabu, Paula Simati, Malakai Nawaqaliva, Mark Nabutoutou, and Anthony Foster.

In the semi-final, VGML defeated FNPF 20-14, WAF beat Fiji Navy 2218.

In the women’s category, the Ana Seniloli captained- WAF defeated RFMF 43 -32 in the final.

WAF had the services of national reps Seniloli, Katarina Nukuvou and the best player of the grade, Jikoiono Koto. RFMF fielded Laite Nima, Tima Lomani, and Buna Waqavuka. “We have been preparing well for this tournament and it finally paid dividend to the girls,” Seniloli said. In the mixed category final, WAF reigned once again beating Justice 35-26. In the semi-final, Ministry of Agricultur­e went down 25-14 to WAF while Justice beat PFD 22-11.
