Fiji National University (FNU) students in the Western Division turned up in big numbers on Monday at the Namaka Campus to interact and receive employment advice during the 2018 Careers Fair. The annual event, organised by the Office of the Registrar, provides an opportunity for students to meet potential employer representatives in an informal setting. FNU’s Assistant Registrar Karishma Deo said the event provided a platform for information sharing between organisations and job seekers. “Our aim was also to provide an opportunity for students whereby they independently manage their own career development through interactions with the employers and as such maximising positive graduate outcomes,” Ms Deo said. A Trade Diploma Culinary Arts student Jaishma Devi, 26, commended the idea undertaken to provide students such opportunity.

“I was able to gather a lot of information on the career path I can choose when I complete my studies.

“There has been a lot market trend and we as students really needs to be well versed in it,” Ms Devi said.

Another student, Jen Morisio from Taveuni, said the event allowed her to establish some network as the event opened opportunities. Companies like CJ Patel, Jack’s of Fiji, Land Transport Authority, SRIF, Air Terminal Services (Fiji), Hilton Fiji Beach Resort and Spa, Carpenters Group, and various Government ministries were part of the event.

This was also to learn more about what sort of staffing they were looking for when it came to recruitment and opportunities available based on the programmes students were pursuing.

Hilton Fiji Beach Resort and Spa human resources cluster director Ana Nasilasila said: “This is a great opportunity for the students and a tourism property like Hilton. It basically gives the students the idea of what’s happening in their areas of study.”

A similar event was held in Suva.
