Works on the Fiji National University (FNU) Labasa Campus at the Naiyaca Subdivision will be completed by 2020. This was revealed by FNU Labasa Campus head Pardeep Lal, the expects the first phase of works to be completed early next year.

“The first phase includes an administration building, lecture rooms, tutorial rooms and computer laboratories,” he said.

Mr Lal said the project was a major one made possible with the assistance of Government.

“I am happy to say that Government through its Look North Policy has seen it fit to support the building of the new Labasa Campus with a $6 million grant allocated in the 2017 to 2018 Budget, with an additional $6 million allocation capital grant in the 2018 to 2019 Budget,” Mr Lal said. “Government understands the need to uplift tertiary education in Fiji and in doing so, thinking about the need to support FNU to having its own campus here at Labasa so as to better meet training and capacity-building requirements for developing the economic potential in the Northern Division.

“I know Fiji National University Labasa Campus has been moving around for some quite time now occupying rented facilitates in and around town, but let me assure all of you present here that very soon, FNU very soon will have its own state of the art campus at the new Naiyaca Subdivision.” Mr Lal said once the campus was complete with accommodation, students from the North would not have to travel to Viti Levu for many of the programmes.
