Complaint based on alleged manipulation of voter list and alleged falsification of voter data contained in the voter registration list

- SELITA BOLANAVANUA

The Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem, has lodged a complaint with the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) against SODELPA aide Jale O Baba.

He confirmed it last night.

The complaint is based on alleged manipulation of voter list and alleged falsification of voter data contained in the voter registration list.

FICAC also confirmed that it had received the complaint lodged against Mr Baba.

Mr Baba had posted up a voters list on his Facebook page with the contact details of various individuals without any authorisation. However, Mr Baba said the voter roll was sent to the party and he was working on it over the weekend. The voter list was issued to the general secretary of SODELPA Adi Litia Qionibaravi.

She had not responded to questions emailed to her when this edition went to press.

“I was working at home on the weekend on my own, I did not clear it

with anybody and the party had nothing on it.

“The release of that information was not by the party, but by me. That was my error and I should shoulder it alone.”

When questioned on whether the party had consulted him, he said: “Not yet, but I suppose they will.”

Mr Baba’s post has since been removed and he had confirmed that he had issued an apology.

SODELPA Party leader Sitiveni Rabuka said last night he censured Mr Baba for posting names and residential addresses of 165 Fijians on Facebook in an apparent breach of their rights to privacy. He spoke after a SODELPA meeting at Cunningham Rd in Suva. Mr Rabuka said Mr Baba did not mean any harm by his post.

“We have told him to control what he posts because whatever he posts can harm the party,” Mr Rabuka said.

“We told him that he has to be careful and be conscious of the restrictions in place. “He meant well when he posted it up because he wanted to ensure that everyone knows their polling station as there were some difference in the addresses. “Those who want to reconfirm their polling station must text there EVR number to 1500 and they will get instant message.”
