Dux Gets Closer to Fulfilling Mother’s Dreams
Mohammed Shazeel Gani is getting closer to fulfilling his mother’s wish for him to become a doctor.
On Friday, the Bucalevu Secondary School student became the dux of his school.
The 18-year-old, who is from Savusavu, also scooped the Best Student of the Year award during the prize giving at the school yesterday.
In the Year 13 final examination, he scored 354/400.
“I am so happy that my long hours of revision with only four hours of sleep daily have been rewarded,” Mohammed said.
“I would like to thank my mother, Shainaz Bano, for being my inspiration, my two siblings and my subject teachers for their encouragement.
“My father, Mohammed Gani who is the principal of this school, had a lot of expectations from me and this made me even study harder. “My mother wanted to become a doctor and unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances she could not,” the second of three siblings said.
“There is no doctor in my family. “To get to do Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) I need to have the cut off mark so that I can get a scholarship to study this.
“I have all this in my mind because I want to become a doctor to make everyone proud and to help them in the future.” Mohammed said he was confident of getting better results in the Fiji Year 13 Examination.
“The important lesson I learnt in my life is to remain positive at all times and do what you think you can do and don’t force yourself to do something just because others have control over your life; you know yourself better.”
