Gamel looks for U23 players, need to lift play
Vodafone Fijian football head coach Christophe Gamel is focused on selecting potential Under-23 players for the upcoming 2020 Olympic Games qualifiers. Gamel was at the ANZ Stadium in Suva during the Courts Inter-District Championship scouting for potential players not only in the premier division but also in the senior division as well. Speaking to SUNsports, Gamel said he’s happy with what some players are doing on the field. “I’m really happy with the performance of the players so far,” he said.
“I select players according to their performance and at the moment I’m able to see two potential players.”
Gamel added that there is still a lot of work to be done in order for players to do their best during the competition.
“Our players need to improve their level of confidence when they are on the field. There is not enough consistency during the games and they need to improve on their passes.
“After three to four passes they release the ball too easily.
“We need to improve more and more at all levels. We are still on the direct way of playing and that is not an international way of play..”
He also pointed out that there is still a lot of physical play and less technical.
“We need to lift the standard and level of play in Fiji,” Gamel added.
