Five people were left homeless following an early morning fire at Sanasana, Naisoso, in Nadi yesterday.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed the incident completely destroyed the concrete home of a 50-year- old woman of Legalega.

The fire allegedly started at 3am from an empty flat under the same roof.

The mother of the house owner, who lived 10 metres away from the burnt structure, Vijay Latchmi, 77,

said,“I lived next door, I was not at home but was alerted by one of my children”.

“By the time I came it was already engulfed with flames. The home was built three years ago.” Ms Naisoro said the National Fire Authority officers attended to the incident and a joint investigation was underway to determine the cause of the fire. Meanwhile, four people are also homeless after their corrugated iron and timber home was completely destroyed in a fire at Nawajikuma settlement in Nawaka, Nadi last Saturday.

Police confirmed the incident happened after midday and there was no occupant in the house at that time.

The home belonged to a 37- yearold truck driver.

According to Police the fire started from a bathroom and toilet that was under construction.
