Afirst year Foundation Science student of the Fiji National University has used personal experiences to help her win the individual female performer award during the FNU Drama Festival.

The festival was held at FNU’s Nasinu Campus last Friday.

Ranisha Pillay, 19, from Sigatoka said she had dramatised on stage some of the aspects in real life which she encountered.

The title of her group’s play was: “My Life, My Choice”.

Acting, which comes naturally to Ms Pillay, has also been an opportunity for her to express herself better.

“I have always been enthusiastic about acting so when I took up the lead role, it was an effortless task for me,” she said.

According to Ms Pillay, the story is about a young girl who gets harassed and ends up committing suicide.

Peer pressure also has a crucial theme in her group’s act.

“I was caught off guard because I did not expect to win,” she said.

Ms Pillay, who wants to pursue a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, said she would gladly oblige if she was offered a chance to take up acting. “Although this was part of our assignment, I am glad I took this opportunity to enhance my acting skills,” Ms Pillay said.
