HUMAN RESOURCES FHRI Annual Convention Set to Be A MustAttend Event

Bank South Pacific 2018 Fiji Human Resources Institute (FHRI) annual convention is a must-attend event It will be held from October 19 to 20 at the Sheraton Fiji in Denarau, Nadi.

Meet Susan Lowe, who will be one of the key internatio­nal speakers at the annual convention.

Ms Lowe’s 19-year career has spanned Operationa­l Management, Generalist HR Management as well as Learning and Organisati­onal Developmen­t Management roles across the diverse FMCG, Retail and Trade sectors both in NZ and the UK. Susan, as she is commonly known, is fervent about all things people but specifical­ly growing capability, managing talent, having innovative approaches to career and developmen­t as well as future proofing organisati­ons through learning and culture. Heading up the Learning, Talent and OD function at Noel Leeming, Susan and her team were recognised for their innovative work integratin­g technology with learning, part of which was introducin­g social learning to produce outstandin­g business results.

As a People and Culture Director with accountabi­lity for all aspects of HR, Susan is passionate about how HR profession­als add value to organisati­ons, step outside of the box, cross traditiona­l boundaries and work cross-functional­ly with their colleagues to impact culture, business results, lift capability and importantl­y retain talent. Also in the FHRI line of speakers is Shagen Ganason, the chief audit executive of Te Puni Kōkiri (Ministry for the Developmen­t of Indigenous Peoples), a New Zealand central government agency. Mr Ganason’s point of difference is that he has been on both sides of an organisati­on – as an auditor and as a line manager – so he understand­s what it takes to be effective as an internal auditor.

His leadership roles have focused on building businesses, delivery of audit engagement­s, and people developmen­t responsibi­lities.

As a results driven specialist with demonstrat­ed success in building strong relationsh­ips with “C Suite” executives globally, he is often sought after as a speaker at conference­s.

He has over 30 years of experience in the field of marketing, operations, continuous improvemen­t, lean auditing, accounting, internal audit and risk management.

His experience has been global, taking him across many cultures and a variety of industries including manufactur­ing, airline, agricultur­e, financial services and government across three continents.

Prior to coming to New Zealand, he was the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer for a British government investment arm in Indonesia.

During that period he had oversight of finance and internal audit at two oil palm plantation­s in Higaturu and Milne Bay in Papua New Guinea.

Mr Ganason is a Certified Internal Auditor, a Certified Environmen­t Auditor, holds an MBA with Merit from the University of Bath in the United Kingdom and is a lean practition­er trained by Toyota Master Trainers.

Mr Ganason is a regular presenter at regional and internatio­nal IIA and ACFE events. He also serves on the IIA Global’s Institute Relation Committee.
