Baber’s men win Nabukelevu-i-ra 7s
The Fiji Airways Fijian 7s team won the 2018 Fiji Bitter Nabukelevu-i-ra 7s tournament in Kadavu after defeating Lomati Two 42-7 in the Cup final yesterday.
The Gareth Baber-coached side received $5000 while Lomati Two settled for $2000.
The Seremaia Tuwai-captained side defeated Nakaiolo in the first semi-final 33-5 while the Suvabased Lomati Two defeated Coastal Baabaas 24-7 in the second semifinal to book their berth in the final. Tournament coordinator Iliesa Bacita said they were blessed to have Gareth Baber and the players in the island for the two days tourney. “Most of the people in Kadavu only watch the Fiji team on television but for them to agree and come to play in the island is a blessing as we finally meet up with our heroes. “We watched two days of 7s and we want to thank Fiji Rugby Union and the team management for agreeing to come and play,” Bacita said. A total of 32 teams gathered at Nabukelevuira Primary School ground despite the wet weather. The aim of the competition was to raise funds for the school. “Our main focus was to upgrade Nabukelevuira Primary School teachers’ quarters,” he said.
