The change that political parties are harping about has already come.

This was the message from FijiFirst party leader Voreqe Bainimarama to more than 2000 Fijians who turned out at Tavua’s Garvey Park for the ruling party’s family fun day. Mr Bainimarama told a cheering crowd that none of the other political parties were offering anything new.

He said all these parties were only talking about policies which FijiFirst had already introduced and not one political party has talked about a new initiative for Fijians.

On sugar

Where other political parties have said they will give a $100 cane payment, Mr Bainimarama reminded the cane farming community that if one was to take into account all the subsidies his Government had given to the industry, it would amount to more than $120 per tonne for cane.

Equality

Mr Bainimarama said if Fiji was to prosper, people needed equality. He said he stood for all communities and he walked the talk.

He criticised the National Federation Party’s silence in Parliament when SODELPA “attacked Indo-Fijians.”

We will continue what we have done

He told those gathered at the event that FijiFirst would continue the movement he started in 2007. He questioned the guarantees by the Opposition parties that they would bring change for the better. Party general secretary Aiyaz SayedKhaiyum also raised this question and reminded people that change for the sake of change did not necessarily mean things would change for the better.

The FijiFirst party leader told a cheering crowd that none of the other political parties were offering anything new.
