FLP Gives 25 Nominations
The Fiji Labour Party (FLP) filed nominations for 25 provisional candidates at the Fijian Elections Office (FEO) yesterday.
FLP parliamentary leader Aman Ravindra-Singh filed it on behalf of the party yesterday.
He said more names would be given on Monday.
When asked if he could reveal the total number of nomination and the names, he said he would do so later.
“We didn’t want to leave everything till the last minute and that is why we have given some names now for FEO to check because there is a process to follow,” Mr RavindraSingh said.
“We are looking forward to getting the process done and out of the way so we can start with our campaign.
“We have only 23 days to campaign, which is very difficult and here we have a Government who has been there for four years and literally campaigning every day,” he said. “We had put forward 18 names in May and the bulk of those names are still part of the nomination today (Friday) we also have few more exciting candidates who will be named later.”
Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem confirmed the FEO had received 25 names from FLP yesterday.
“We have accepted the documents and are now processing it to determine the qualification requirements as per the Electoral Act and we have a turnaround time of 48 hours,” Mr Saneem said.
“We hope to complete the processing for National Federation Party and Social Democratic Liberal Party by tomorrow (Saturday) and on Sunday we hope to finish processing the FLP.
FEO will remain open during the weekend in case any independent candidate wishes to nominate however, the political parties that are left are HOPE and Unity Fiji and they informed us they will lodge on Monday (October 15).” He said FEO will publish the list of approved candidates on Monday and on Tuesday’s paper as well.
