Minister Voreqe Bainimarama with the first dux of Bau Central College Year 9 student Epeneri Vulatolu Tanuku with his trophy and shield on October 17, 2018.
The first ever dux for the Bau Central College Epeneri Vulatolu Tanuku, wants to pursue a career as a pilot in the future. The Year Nine student lost his father when he was two years old so he was looked after by his grandparents Solomoni and Paulini Cati at Namuka Village, Bau, Tailevu.
Epeneri said he was thankful to his grandparents for the support, guidance and advice that they gave him.
“I dedicate all my prizes to them,” Epeneri said.
He won prizes for Mathematics, English, Office Technology, Basic Science and Basic Technology. Epeneri said he would continue to attend Bau Central College till Year 13 (Form 7). Mr Cati said the student deserved to win the dux prize because he was a hard worker. His daily study programme at home starts at 6pm and finishes around or after 9pm.
“He is only allowed to visit his friends to play with them on Friday and Saturday,” Mr Cati said.
He said the Year 9 student was always faithful to whatever task given to him at home.
At the beginning of Term 3 Mr Cati said he told Epeneri that he would like him to win all the subject prizes during the prize giving ceremony this year. He failed to win the other two subjects because he was sick when students sat for the two papers. Epeneri said he was happy that Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama was their chief guest and handed over all his prizes.
