Roadside vendors to boost business with standardised stalls

These stalls are a common sight when travelling along the main highways that is Queen’s Road, the King’s Road or the Hibiscus Highway

- MARAIA VULA

If you want to start your own roadside stall business, then you are in luck.

The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism under the Fijian Government have recently advertised for expression of interests for standardised roadside stalls.

When you become a roadside vendor you make an immense contribution to the economy.

Roadside vendors are very important because they are selling goods or produce that are feeding and sustaining our communities.

They also give tourists or visitors to our country a sample of the Fijian-grown produce and which many of the vendors are putting in the long hours to harvest what they planted or produced themselves.

As announced in the 2018-2019 National Budget, the Fijian Government will continue to provide high-quality standardised roadside stalls to vendors who operate in areas outside of municipal boundaries and meet the set criteria.

So Government is improving the quality and presentation of roadside stalls, which are utilised by vendors to sell agricultural produce, by providing presentable, durable and standardised structures.

Government has continued its support to invest into the Fijian people, and that includes funding new and innovative programmes such as the standardised roadside stalls.
